We are beyond thrilled to welcome Grace to the Friendship Center. Grace will lead our after-school kids club on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 3 to 4:15 pm. Please pray for Grace as she leads our kids into knowing Jesus Christ.

Hi! My name is Grace Zihlman. I grew up in Carlisle, Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University in December 2018 with a degree in Instrumental Music Education. My husband Matt and I were married in May 2018 and we currently live in Ames, Iowa and attend Crossroad Baptist Church. We are active in several church ministries together including helping with the Truth and Training kids at AWANAS, Crossroad Kids on Sunday mornings, and the Crossroad Music Team. In my free time, I enjoy reading, baking, hiking, playing the piano, and cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones!

Hello there!

Thank you so much for considering us! We are excited for this opportunity to meet you and have you serve our community. This is a great ministry for families, friends, neighborhoods, small groups, or sports teams. Anyone is welcome to serve with us! The Friendship Center is a faith based non profit community center. We are located in the heart of Des Moines, More specifically the Martin Luther King area. We offer many programs for our “friends” and community, from education, to fiances and more. The Friendship Center serves over 3,000 “friends” each year. All while sharing the good news of Jesus to Iowa.

One of our biggest ministries always in need is our meal programs. This is a great way to serve without a long term commitment. You can make this ministry fit into your schedule or season. We serve four meals to our community, newborns to elderly. No one is ever turned away.

“I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger and you invited me in.” Matthew 25:35

Meal times-

Monday- Dinner for the Youth Group at 4 pm (average 25)

Tuesday- Breakfast for the Community (average 30) at 9 am and Dinner for Kids Club (average 20) at 4 pm

Thursday- Dinner for Kids Club (average 20) at 4 pm

You are always welcome to use our full service kitchen. If you can not make it, we can serve your pre-made meal for you too.

We understand that sometimes cooking for that many people may be overwhelming, Listed here are some ideas.

* Bring a frozen meal and drop it off before, or meal prep a frozen meal to fill in when we have open spots.

* Order food to be delivered to the Center

* Pizza

* Breakfast for dinner

* Pastas

* Anything in a crock pot

* Soup

* Casseroles

* Easy kids meals ( Mac n cheese, chicken nuggets, cold meat sandwiches, hot dogs)

* Anything to be grilled in the warmer months (We have a grill on site!)

Listed below are the dates available. If you have any questions please reach out to me Ashton Haines at ashtonkempfhaines@gmail.com or my cell (515) 381-8618. We are so thankful for your partnership in loving and serving God’s people.

Sponsor our Teenagers for Winter Retreat 2019

On Saturday, February 2nd, the Disciples Teen Group will once again travel to Boone, Iowa and Seven Oaks for our annual Winter Retreat. Our group has grown to an average of 16 teenagers coming weekly to the Friendship Center, to play some games, share a meal and open God’s word together. For their faithfulness, hard work and add more unity, we will take them for two hours of snow tubing at Seven Oaks and buy them dinner. Would your family, small group or church family consider sponsoring one child at $25? The $25 will help cover snow tubing rental, dinner and provide winter apparel for those needing it.

If you would like to sponsor a child, please do so by January 28th.

Thank you,

Chris

Thank you for supporting the Friendship Center

Merry Christmas and thank you for supporting the Friendship Center!!!!!

We had our annual Disciples Teen Group Movie Night on Monday, December 10th and took 15 teenagers to see “The Grinch” at the Altoona Movie Theaters. Chris, our leader, has done a fantastic job of reaching this community and giving the teenagers a safe place to hang out after school, complete a creation DVD series and share a weekly meal. The teenagers had a blast receiving popcorn and drinks while lounging out on the recliners. Some kids were so impressed that one said, “Even the bathrooms smell great here” while others tweeted out to their friends where they were and replied, “My friends are jealous of me.”

Our next trip will be to Boone, Iowa at Seven Oaks for our annual Snow Tubing Night. Each teenager will cost about $20 for two hours of snow tubing and their meal. If you would like to sponsor a child, please send your check to PO Box 41188, Des Moines, Iowa 50314. We could use your help to pay for 15+ teenagers to go snow tubing.

Thank you,

Joe Quick
